#InternationalWomensday: Seven ladies owning the hair and beauty industry

Posted on 8th March 2016 by PROinsider
It’s International Women’s Day, so to celebrate, we’ve put together a list of superwomen who are making huge waves across the hair and beauty industry and inspiring others along the way…

Who: Sophia Hilton, owner and director of Not Another Salon

Why we love her:
Not only is Sophia a pioneer in hair colour (check out Not Another Salon’s Instagram), she’s gone above and beyond to ensure that her client’s salon experience is a happy and welcoming one through her ‘no judgement’ policy.

We bet you didn’t know:
Sophia has launched a charity, Not Another Charity,  a hairdressing school in Madagascar, to offer the local people a chance to learn a trade to provide for their families. Girl power at its finest!

Who: Lisa Laudat, hair and make-up artist

Why we love her:
If your dream is to become a MUA or hair stylist to the stars, it’s Lisa’s career advice and Instagram you need to follow. Her little black book of clients resembles the guest list at the Chiltern Firehouse – Girls Aloud (Lisa is Cheryl’s go-to stylist), Michelle Keegan, Little Mix and Sophie Ellis-Bextor all have Lisa’s number on speed dial.

We bet you didn’t know:
Lisa is godmother to one of Sophie Ellis Bextor’s sons.

Who: Antonia Burrell, super facialist

Why we love her:
Celebs, supermodels and even royalty are queuing up to try Antonia’s coveted skincare range (and get on her waiting list). However, her success didn’t happen overnight. It’s all down to her drive to succeed and expansive knowledge, and her passion for the industry and her clients.

We bet you didn’t know:
Antonia was one of the first facialists in the UK to introduce the concept of facial oils.

Who: Inanch Emir, hair extensionist and owner of Inanch London (AKA the queen of hair extensions)

Why we love her:
Like most hair assistants, Inanch’s dream was to open her own salon, but her idea (a salon that focused solely on hair extensions) was met with doubt by her friends and colleagues. Unfazed, Inanch took the risk and 10 years on, Inanch London has collected prestigious awards including Best Extensionist of the Year (for three years running) and Best Hair Extension Specialist.

We bet you didn’t know:
Inanch’s daughter Demi works at the salon and she has apparently inherited her mother’s ambition. She says: ‘I want us to become the Chanel of extensions.’ Watch this space!

Who: Francesca Amber, celebrity tanner and owner of Never Too Tanned

Why we love her:
Francesca and her sister used to be sunbed addicts, but after her sister had a cancer scare, Francesca ditched the sunbed for fake tan. And when she couldn’t find a tan that suited her, she decided to create her own bespoke tan by booking onto a spray-tanning course and launching her own business Never Too Tanned. Now stars like Millie Mackintosh and Vogue Williams go to Francesca for their TV tans.

We bet you didn’t know:
Never Too Tanned offers a consumer tanning brand loved by tan-fan Kylie Jenner.

Who: Tasha Stevens – Colour Director at Jamie Stevens Hair

Why we love her:
Tasha may be working in her brother Jamie’s salon, but with two l’Oréal colour trophies and a Fellowship for British Hairdressing signature style award under her belt, she’s certainly making her own mark in the industry. Between colouring the tresses of celebs – including Rebecca Adlington and Ella Henderson – Tasha is working on big TV shows (The X Factor) and photo shoots.

We bet you didn’t know:
Tasha has worked with famed photographer Rankin.

Who: Metta Francis, celebrity nail technician and founder of Nails By Mets

Why we love her:
Graduating with a first-class degree in business management, and with a passion for nail art, Metta was on the right track to become a successful nail technician. After leaving a stressful job, she spotted a gap in the market for a mobile nail technician offering the latest nail innovations. You can always rely on Metta to brighten a dull day with her neon-coated nail designs (check them out here). She takes inspiration from nature, fashion and even architecture, and it’s no wonder that celebs such as MTV’s Becca Dudley, M.I.A and Jourdan Dunn call on her for a red carpet mani. Metta’s passion for nail art isn’t noticed just by A-listers – she won a Scratch Stars award for Mobile Nailist of the Year.

We bet you didn’t know:
A pair of her mum’s net curtains initially inspired Metta’s signature floral nail look!
