Transforming minimal make-up to the max

Posted on 22nd October 2015 by PROinsider

Muted make-up has been seen on nearly every catwalk over the past couple of seasons, and although we love the fresh-as-a-daisy finish to skin, we wanted to know how this look can be realistically wearable for the weekend. We asked global celebrity hair and make-up artist Julia Carta to give us the lowdown on the trend – and what to add to spice it up for the festive season ahead…

All about the base...

“The bare-faced beauty trend is on point again for AW15. The 'no make-up make-up’ look is all about flawless, radiant skin created with hydrated lightweight foundations and mineral make-up to correct imperfections. Contouring and highlighting is a subtle way to bring out your natural bone structure and natural beauty. Lip and eyes are nude to compliment this look. Get inspired by celebs like Alexa Chung, who rocks the minimal make-up look for a night out by using bold liquid eyeliner with a 60s twist, teamed with peachy skin and a pale pout.”

Gems and geometric

“AW15 is awash with temporary tattoos on the body, rhinestones under the lower lash line, ultra graphic eyes, and face art on the cheeks and corner of the eye. Oversized bold eyeliner and graphic eyes remain key trends. Graphic eye lines are about creating a geometric (sometimes floating) shape around the eye with an eyeliner, or creating an abstract shape using precise lines freestyle with a flick that ends with a small triangle or star. A bold graphic eye sweeping towards a feline-shaped eye is also on trend. Keep lips nude, or, if it’s a special celebration, go for a deep plum or red lip.”

Bold brows

“Bold, thick, strong and boyish brows like brow-queen Cara Delevingne’s are still bang on trend and really frame a minimal make-up face. If you're not blessed with thick brows, they can be achieved by using a brow product to fill in brows and define.”

Plum pouts

“This season make-up artists are opting for rich berry hues, Bordeaux plum and in some cases deepest black in either matt or iridescent. A statement red lip is also key again for AW15. However, if you're opting for a bold graphic eye, keep lips nude and flesh coloured.”
