Get your clients sunshine-ready with our Top 5 Haircare Tips for Summer

This summer is set to be one of the busiest for hair and beauty businesses because all your clients will want to look and feel holiday-ready after months of being stuck at home.

This summer is set to be one of the busiest for hair and beauty businesses because all your clients will want to look and feel holiday-ready after months of being stuck at home. However, it’s important to remember that the bright sunshine can cause a huge amount of damage to their hair.

Whether it’s colour fading or dryness, we’re here to share our top tips on how your clients can look after their hair, and also suggest the best hair care products for you to upsell in your salon or freelance business.

1. Colour Protection

After spending the last year stuck indoors, your clients will probably be poised for the first chance to bask in the sunshine. However, their hair might not be quite so happy. This is because the sun can cause colour fading in dark hair and bleaching/lightening in warm blonde tones. If you have clients who don’t want to spend their whole summer out of the sun, or wearing hats to cover their hair, you can recommend SPF and UV hair care products to take with them.

This is the perfect opportunity for an upsell because many of your favourite salon hair care products already contain SPF and UV protection. Brands including Maria Nila, Kemon and Paul Mitchell offer a range of colour protective shampoos, conditioners and sprays. Not only will they protect your client’s colour, but they will also add much-needed moisture to combat the sun.

2. Clarify that chlorine damage

Whether your client is having a dip in the pool at their local leisure centre or enjoying some spa time at a hotel, a swim is always a refreshing experience. However, this comes with the very real possibility of chlorine-damaged hair. It all depends on the individual pool and its chlorine levels, so your client will need hair care products that prepare them for anything.

To combat chlorine damage we recommend that they take a clarifying shampoo with them. Some of our bestselling brands including Lomé Paris, Maria Nila and Paul Mitchell, and they’re all designed to tackle impurities in their hair whilst offering a deep cleansing experience.

One important tip you should share with your clients is to not use clarifying shampoos every day. This is especially the case if their hair is colour-treated or dark as it can strip colour out and remove the natural moisture that keeps it healthy. Recommend that they use it once a week or mix a small amount in with their regular shampoo.

3. Take a step back from the heat (styling)

If your client’s hair is already frazzled from the sun then it might be time to tell them to go easy on their regular blow-drying and heat-styling routine. Unfortunately, air-drying for most people will not be an option. However, we do offer electricals with variable settings that your clients can customise to suit their hair at any particular moment.

As for the brand to upsell? Proxelli offers hairdryers and straighteners with variable temperature settings, making them suitable for any hair type. Not only will they guarantee your client’s luscious summer styles for long periods, but they will also lock in the natural moisture necessary to keep their hair hydrated and healthy.

4. It’s all about hydration

There’s one golden rule your clients should follow as they finally get that long overdue suntan: Look after their hair as they’d look after their skin. This means a consistent routine that keeps their hair hydrated, moisturised and protected.

Olaplex is one of the most popular hair care brands in the world, and offers a unique series of iconic shampoos, conditioners and at-home treatments that you can upsell. You’ve also now got the new Olaplex No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask! With its patented technology, their six-step system will relink broken bonds and reverse all forms of damage in your client’s hair to make it strong, nourished and moisturised.
