How do I qualify?

If you are a hair, beauty or barber professional, you can apply for a professional trade card. If you are studying for a hair, beauty or barber qualification, you can apply for a student trade card.

Proof of professional/student status

You will need to provide proof of your address such as a driving licence, utility bill or bank statement, as well as the following:

  • Certificate for hair a & beauty qualification at Level 2 (NVQ or equivalent) or above
  • Public liability insurance
  • A business card or recent payslip
  • An ID card from The Hairdressing Council
  • Salon Services course certificate
  • For students, a valid college card, and a letter or email confirming course

How do I apply in store?

To apply in store, please visit your local Salon Services or Sally store and complete an application form. You will need to bring the above identification and proof documentation with you.

For your convenience, we automatically register you with an online account when you apply for a Trade Card in store. Within 24 hours you will receive your registration email where you will be able to activate your account and start shopping online.

What happens if I don’t receive my registration email?

If you do not receive your registration email or you have accidentally deleted it, don't worry. You can still register to shop online, you just need to provide your trade card number and the post code you used in your application.

What if there is a problem with my application?

If there are any problems with your application we will send you an email letting you know. Here are a few reasons why your application may not be processed:

  • Incorrect or insufficient documentation provided
  • Inadequate qualifications
  • No documents provided
  • You already have a Trade Card

If you receive an email notifying you that we need more information or alternative documentation, you have 14 days to get the correct information to us in order for us to process your application. If we do not receive this within 14 days, your application will be rejected, but you can still apply again in-store or online.

Upgrading or extending your student card

If you hold a student Trade Card and need to upgrade to a professional Trade Card once you are fully qualified, you have 90 days to upgrade from when your course ends. You will be notified when your account is due to expire and given instructions on how to do this.

If your course has been extended, or you've decided to continue your studies in Hair, Beauty or Barbering, you can extend your student Trade Card. You still have the same 90 day window after your course has expired, but instead of upgrading your card, you can choose to extend it.

If you chose not to upgrade or extend, your account will be closed after the 90 days has lapsed and you will no longer be able to use your card.
