What can you do to extend the life of your manicure?

You’ve just painted your nails to find them chipped only seconds later. We have all experienced this annoyance after painstakingly painting our own nails. If you don’t have time to give yourself a daily manicure, hate chipped nail varnish and don’t want to visit the salon for a gel manicure then we have some advice to help you achieve a longer lasting manicure at home.

Pick your colour then instead of shaking the bottle to mix the colour (which will introduce air bubbles) roll the bottle in between your hands.

Push back cuticles in the shower when nails are soft

Try to keep cuticles removed / healthy between manicures

Gently buff, be careful not to overdo this then prep the nail with acetone

Apply base coat all the way to the cuticle

Apply your chosen polish to just above the cuticle

Seal the free edge at the top to avoid chips

Apply two thin coats of your polish and leave a minute or two to dry in between

To get a smooth finish apply the least amount of polish and mess with it as little as possible

Smooth out dents right away, you can do this by putting some saliva on your finger and working out the dent

Go around the cuticle area with a small brush dipped in nail polish remover to neaten up the finish

To help your manicure dry quickly place your nails in a bowl of ice cold water

Apply a top coat to seal in your manicure
