How to get The X Factor nail designs

Posted on 11th December 2015 by PROinsider
The X Factor finale is so close we can almost hear the winner’s song. Not only have the contestants been particularly talented this year, they’ve been talon-ted (sorry not sorry). So, we’ve taken a look back over some of the winning nail looks created by nail technician Karen Louise. Check out the products that added a little X-tra to the contestant’s fingertips…

4th Impact’s metallic talons

1. Cleanse nails from previous colour.

2. Tidy cuticles.

3. Infill acrylics using Salon Services Acrylic Powder.

4. Apply S Professional Instant Base Coat.

5. Apply a thin coat of Gel Effect by Nina Ultra Pro All About Autumn Collection in Moonstone, starting from the little finger and making your way across to the other hand.

6. Apply a second coat, again starting at the little finger and working across to the other hand. As you would have polished over acrylic, you do not want to be able to see the clear line of the nail, so it’s important to seal the edges.

7. Allow the nail polish to dry until it’s tacky, and then very carefully place the foil on the nail.

8. Apply Nails Inc Top Coat  to secure the foils and to finish the look with a high-gloss effect.

Lauren Murray’s LBD nails

1.  Cleanse nails from previous colour.

2. Tidy cuticles.

3. Infill acrylics using Salon Services Acrylic Powder.

4. Apply Nails Inc Base Coat.

5. Apply one thin coat of Nails Inc Pro Long Wear Gel Look in Victoria, starting from the little finger and making your way across to the other hand.

6. Apply a second coat, again starting with the little finger and working across to the other hand. As you would have polished over acrylic, you do not want to be able to see the clear line of the nail, so it’s important to seal the edges.

7. Apply Nails Inc Top Coat  to ensure edges are sealed.

8. Oil the nails with China Glaze Orange Cuticle Oil

Louisa Johnson’s iridescent talons

1.  Cleanse nails from previous colour.

2. Tidy cuticles.

3. Apply Gellux Profile Fast Bond to natural nail, and leave to dry for 30 seconds.

4. Apply Gellux Profile Clear Base/Top, and cure under Gellux lamp for 30 seconds.

5. Apply one thin coat of China Glaze Nail Lacquer in White on White to four fingers, then cure for 30 seconds.

6. Apply a second coat to the same four fingers, and cure for another 30 seconds.
Repeat the previous two steps on the other four fingers and the two thumbs.

7. Once all the nails are cured and still tacky, use your fingertip to add So Easy Glitter in White Powder (you can use a small brush but this creates more mess and your fingertip allows you to push the glitter into the sticky gel layer). Repeat on all ten fingers, ensuring the glitter is pushed into the sticky later to create a smoother finish.

8. Using a soft dust brush, brush off the excess glitter dust.

9. Apply Gellux Profile Shiny Top Coat, making sure to seal the edges.

10. Cure under the Gellux lamp for a further 30 seconds.

11. Wipe any residue off with Gellux Prep+Wipe.

12. Finish by applying oil to the nails, and moisturising hands with Skintruth Manicure Nourishing Hand Lotion.

Alien Uncovered’s pastel nail art

1. Cleanse nails from previous colour.

2. Tidy cuticles.

3. Infill acrylics using Salon Services Acrylic Powder.

4. Apply Morgan Taylor Stick With It Long-Wearing Nail Base Coat.

5. Dip a small stripping brush into Nails Inc Pro Long Wear Gel Look in Buckingham Lane and start to create different designs on each nail. Make sure you have a very steady hand to create the straight lines of your block design. Repeat this on all 10 nails, but remember to change the position of the block on each nail.

6. Clean your stripping brush and apply Nails Inc Pro Long Wear Gel Look in Notting Hill Gate to add more colour to your look. Repeat this on all 10 nails, remembering to change the position of the block on each nail.

7. Finish your design using Nails Inc Pro Long Wear Gel Look in Victoria, and outline some of the purple and pink lines. Avoid adding too much black; just add enough to give it a sharper finish.

8. Make sure the right hand and left hand are identical.

9. Apply Nails Inc Top Coat to seal the edges to finish the look with a high-gloss effect.

10. Oil the nails with China Glaze Orange Cuticle Oil
