Your ultimate Christmas makeup and nail edit
Christmas might look very different this year, but your customers will still want to look their festive best.
Here’s our round up of the makeup and nail trends for December.
Rainbow Brights
You might think neon brights and peacock shades are just for summer. But these bright pops of colour, which were worn on the Autumn/Winter 2020 catwalks earlier this year, are on trend for now.
Penny Williams, a hair and makeup artist and owner of Blush! Beauty and Hair says. “To really stand out from the crowd this season, get your brights out. From pops of pink to peacock hues, rainbow smoky eyes add a touch of frivolity to your festive outfit. If you’re not quite brave enough to go all out neon, a warm pink blended with rose gold gives a softer feel, while a smouldering purple or green eye really turns on the drama. For a subtle take on this look a swipe of coloured eyeliner adds a subtle hint of fun.”
“Wear a different colour on each finger to be bang on trend this Christmas. Just make sure they are similar tones so as not to clash.”
Bold lips
With more than 16 million #redlips posts on Instagram, wearing red lipstick is a popular beauty look. And this is especially true at Christmas. While your clients will have their mouths covered when they are out and about, why not sell them a red lipstick to use at home.
Penny says, “With all the mask wearing we have been doing, lips have certainly taken a back seat over the last few months, but on Christmas Day they will be at the forefront of many a makeup look. Keep skin natural and glowing with a light tinted moisturiser and a barely there, nude eye shadow with lashings of mascara, then amp up your look with a festive red lipstick.
From sheer, tinted balms to full on matte textures, red lipstick takes your look from zero to full on glam in a matter of seconds.”
Smokey eyes
Another key beauty look your clients will love this December is the smokey eye with hints of gold. Add winged eyeliner to be bang on trend. “A sparkly gold liner adds drama especially when layered as a thin line over a more theatrical black wing”, says Penny.
Classic Red
Looking for nail inspiration? Clare Winter, aka Pixie who runs Lil Pixie Nails, says, “Classic Red is always a winner at Xmas - especially the shine created with gel polish! Look for dark wine and burgundy tones which was seen on lots of AW2020 catwalk shows. For this festive look, short nails are best.”
All that glitters
It wouldn’t be Christmas without glitter! Pixie recommends solid gold or a polish with opaque glitter for a festive look.
Pair your colours
Don’t just stick to one nail polish colour. Instead choose mulberry, plum and aubergine shades in complementary tones. Pixie adds, “Wear a different colour on each finger to be bang on trend this Christmas. Just make sure they are similar tones so as not to clash.”
