Five 2017 men's hair trends from The Bluebeards Revenge

Our friends at The Bluebeards Revenge are real fashionistas and so when it comes to men’s hairstyle trends they definitely know what’s what. Using their top secret scientific formula (honest), they have predicted the top five styles the most fashion conscious men will be wearing throughout 2017.

Whether your client is a bohemian beach boy or a beast in the boardroom, here you’ll find a guide to achieving a new look which is on-point.

Barbers, never fear, good friend of The Bluebeards Revenge and top barber Tom Chapman has given us a breakdown on how to create the look as well as top tips for home maintenance so you can advise your clients.

Scissor-cut Contour

Scissor-cut Contour

CREATE IT

Step 1
Wash your client’s hair then while it’s wet establish a natural parting and section it using an asymmetric horseshoe

Step 2
Starting at the temples, cut the hair with scissors graduated from long to short and meet both sides at the nape

Step 3
Connect the top into the graduated back and sides using the guide created

Step 4
Through the top point cut at a 30 degree angle leaving the side closest to the parting longest and blend the opposite side into the existing guide

Step 5
Blast dry and create some movement using a pomp brush

Step 6
Finish off the cut using scissor-over-comb and detailer trimmers

Step 7
Finally, style with some The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste

MAINTAIN IT
Wash the hair to give the best final result. Dry hair with a pomp brush or just scrunch it with fingers to create more texture. Finish with The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste. Use a thumbnail sized amount and run it through hands until it’s almost transparent, then evenly distribute it to cover all of the hair from the root up.

Side-parted Pompadour

Side-parted Pompadour

CREATE IT

Step 1
Using the natural parting create an asymmetric horseshoe section and clip it away

Step 2
Starting at the temple and working back to meet at the nape, put in your blank canvas of a grade two then freehand graduate it in preparation to blend into the top

Step 3
Put in your shortest grade at the hairline and work through the grades to blend up and through. Then use trimmers and a razor to line up

Step 4
Release the top and blend it into the sides over directing the top to leave length for pomp

Step 5
Dry with pomp brush and finish with The Bluebeards Revenge Pomade

Maintain it
Wash hair to give the best final result. Apply a salt mist and dry with a pomp brush to give height and shape. Then finish with The Bluebeards Revenge Pomade

Disconnected Slick Back with Burst Fade

Disconnected Slick Back with Burst Fade

Create it

Step 1
Establish your disconnection and clip away the top

Step 2
Put in your grade two blank canvas starting at the temples, graduating out more towards the back ready to blend in the back to give a good shape

Step 3
To create the burst fade, start with your shortest grade around the ear in a circular shape creating your guide. Work through the grades removing all weight and creating a smooth transition maintaining the shape of the guide

Step 4
Line up with trimmers and a razor

Step 5
Release the top and establish a profile section to create your guide from long to short toward the nape

Step 6
Using horizontal sections and the established guide elevate to 90 degrees and remove the corners to create a triangle shape through the top and reduce weight on the sides

Step 7
Blend the top from behind the ear into the back

Step 8
Dry straight back using a flat brush and finish with The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste

MAINTAIN IT
Wash hair to give the best final result. Dry hair with a flat brush and finish with The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste ensuring that all of the hair is covered with some product to ensure maximum effect.

Caesar Crop with Surgical Line

Caesar Crop with Surgical Line

CREATE IT

Step 1
Start by establishing a horseshoe section from recession to recession and put in your blank canvas of your longest grade

Step 2
As a drop fade on the side, establish your guide with your shortest grade dropping down past the occipital at the back of the head

Step 3
Work your way up through the grades to your longest grade. Line up the edges with trimmers and a blade

Step 4
Release the top and blend into the side and back

Step 5
Point cut the top square over directing towards the front to allow for the fringe

Step 6
Apply a small amount of The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste and dry it forward

Step 7
Give the final detail to the fringe and fade once perfect

Step 8
Take your trimmers and place your surgical line to follow and enhance the shape of your fade

Step 9
Finish with The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste

MAINTAIN IT
Wash hair to give the best final result. Dry hair forward and then scrunch The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste through it to create texture and pinch the ends of the fringe to get that separation.

Tapered Crop

Tapered Crop

CREATE IT

Step 1
Start by establishing a horseshoe section from recession to recession and put in your blank canvas of your longest grade

Step 2
Establish your taper by putting in your guide in front of the ears and at the nape of the neck, working through the grades to blend into existing length. (Remember a taper doesn't meet over the ears like a fade does)

Step 3
Blend in the top to the sides and back, using horizontal sections alternate between two different angles of point cutting to create extra texture

Step 4
Rough dry using salt spray to make the most of the texture

Step 5
Once dry use slicing techniques to release more texture and ensure taper is perfect. Finish off by lining up with trimmers and a razor

MAINTAIN IT
Wash hair to give you the best final result, although this is an easy cut to maintain. Blast dry and finish with The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste. Pinch the ends of sections you wish to highlight.
