6 Expert Tips for Applying Gelish Polish

When applying a Gelish Soak-Off Gel Polish or lacquer, following these expert application tips can make a big difference to your manicure and pedicure services.

1
  • Make sure you’ve got enough product on your brush
  • Too much product and you will lose control, too little product and you won’t be able to coat evenly and thoroughly. Remember, it’s easier to pull off any excess during your application that it is to go back and re-apply.

    2
  • Get to know your gel polish & lacquer
  • They may be from the same Gelish brand. But different amounts and types of pigment in your Gelish lacquers and gel polishes means each will have a different consistency. The amount of pigment will also affect the opaqueness of each colour.

    Opaque Gelish Polish

Apply thin, even coats. An opaque formula will usually give full coverage in two coats, although some paler or pastel shades may need and extra coat to give full coverage.

    Semi-Transparent Gelish Polish

Apply two to three coats. These semi-transparent polishes - including frosted, glitter or pearl finishes - are also perfect for layering over other shades of polish.

    Glitters & Effects Gelish Polish

These are in a transparent base and designed to be used on their own or on top of other colours. Some may need to be mixed slightly with your Hand and Nail Harmony Stir Stick before applying for an even coverage.

    3
  • Don’t overwork the Gelish product
  • As soon as you apply Gelish lacquer it starts to dry. This means if you repeatedly brush over the layer, you’ll start to pull and scrape at the other freshly applied product leaving an uneven surface that’s impossible to make smooth.

The same can happen if you’re using Gelish Soak-Off Gel Polish. Overworking can also increase your risk of applying the product too thick.

    4
  • Work quickly
  • Great news if you want to speed up your nail services - Gelish products are designed to be applied quickly. A speedier application means you’ll be more accurate and - with less time spent using the products - also reduces the possibility of skin contact.

    5
  • Avoid shrinkage
  • If you follow the step-by-step application for Gelish, you shouldn’t experience shrinkage. There are other steps you can take to make sure your polish remains perfect…

Dry brush after the Foundation coat…

This turns the smooth inhibition layer into a textured surface which is then able to grip the Gelish Soak Off Gel Polish during application.

Don’t apply the Gelish too thinly…

This cause shrinkage as there isn’t enough product on the nail to hold the product in place before curing. Make sure you use the correct amount of product.

    6
  • Avoid Gelish wrinkling
  • Applying Gelish too thickly can cause an improper cure and lead to surface wrinkling of the Gelish Soak Off Gel Polish.
