How can I market Halloween to my clients?

Halloween is getting more popular every year. So make the most of it when it comes to your marketing.

Salon System nail expert Karen Louise says, “In the weeks running up to October 31, start creating and showcasing different Halloween designs. Halloween doesn’t necessarily mean dark and scary nails. Sometimes if a client is getting enhancements or gel nails they can be unsure whether to get Halloween-themed nails as they will last a few weeks. Instead, try and create more subtle nail art that discreetly says ‘Halloween’!”

Jaz Moger, Salon System Nail Expert and Owner of Paint by Jaz, agrees. She says, “Since lockdown, everyone seems braver with their nail art choices and I think Halloween will be a big one for nail art this year. If you’re a salon that doesn’t usually do much nail art, Halloween is a great opportunity to showcase your skills and get clients to try something new. You could even offer a ‘free Halloween accent nail’ with every mani in October.”

How much should I charge for Halloween nail art?

Unsure of how to set your prices? Try these expert tips for working out how much to charge for Halloween nail art.

Jaz says, “I tend to start my nail art prices at £1 per nail and then go up in £2 tiers depending on the difficulty, number of colours used and the time taken. I would charge this on top of my normal mani price.”

Meanwhile Julie-Anne Larivière, Salon System Nail Expert and Owner of Sketched by J-A Nails, says, “Charging for nail art is very individual. I personally charge for how long a design takes me to do. I work out my hourly rate then split it into five-minute increments. The longer it takes, the more expensive it will be.”

Karen has created this ghostly Halloween look using Gellux. Here’s her step-by-step guide to recreating the nail art design for your clients

Step 1

Prepare the nails, file to shape, push back the cuticle and gently buff the nail plate. Brush away any dust and wipe over with the Gellux Prep & Wipe.

Apply the Gellux Fast Bond to nails and let dry. Then apply a thin coat of Gellux Cover Pink Base Coat to the nails and cure.

Step 2

Using Gellux Live & Loud on a small detailing brush to create your pumpkin shape on the cuticle area of the thumb, index and pinkie finger, and cure. Then, using Gellux Purely White, create the ghost shape at the cuticle area of the remaining fingers, and cure.

Step 3

Using Gellux Black Onyx to outline the shapes and draw in faces, then cure.

Step 4

At the tips of the nails use Gellux Black Onyx to paint on the tip half way. Paint on the other half using Gellux Live & Loud then blend the two together in the middle to create the ombre effect tip.

Then do the same with Gellux Black Onyx and Gellux Purely White, and cure.

Step 5

Apply the Gellux Shiny Top Coat, making sure to cap the free edge, and cure. Finally, wipe the nails with Gellux Prep & Wipe and apply Gellux Nail & Cuticle Oil.

Stay inspired
