5 hair and beauty trends for 2020, picked by experts

Predictions_Feature

Don’t start 2020 until you’ve read these expert-picked hair and beauty trends that your clients will love...

It’s a shiny new year! And to get your 2020 off to a great start, we sat down with a selection of leading hair and beauty professionals to get their predictions for this year’s hottest trends. Read on for their top tips..

5 hair and beauty trends for 2020, picked by experts

1. Advanced braiding

Pigtail plaits and adorned braids are both big trends for SS20 after being seen during last September’s fashion month. And according to Kristina Lauren, founder of Sparkle Pony, a great way to stay on trend is by working on your braiding technique.

She says, “I’m excited about doing more advanced braiding. I feel like with the growth of braids on Instagram, the braid techniques have gone from standard to super high advanced. So I want to get into more advanced braiding skills like basket weaves and five strand braids instead of just three strand braids.”

“Fashion’s fixation with the 1990s has been steadily increasing. So it’s no surprise the nineties throwback trend has spread to hair and beauty as well.”

2. Warm colours

Cool tones including tweed balayage and Nordic white were popular hair colours in 2019. For this year it’s all change says leading stylist and colourist Noora Ahmad. “I’m hoping to see more warm colours. I think the last few years we’ve been seeing a lot of cool, which is great but I enjoy the warms. I’d like to see some reds come back!”

3. 90s revival

Fashion’s fixation with the 1990s has been steadily increasing. So it’s no surprise the nineties throwback trend has spread to hair and beauty as well.

Luke Dawson-Browne from Salon Success says, “I’m really liking the 90s revivals at the minute. There’s one look that I do that’s got a 90s supermodel vibe. It’s very much back to that tonal palette of walnut, bronze, caramel.

“I see bespoke colouring as a trend: really enhancing each individual’s skin tone and eye colour.”

4. Creative colouring

Another hot hair trend for 2020 is the ‘money piece’ - a bright frame of colour around your client’s face. The trend, started by Beyonce last June, is expected to be massive this summer.

But why not take it even further with pops of colour throughout the hair. James Davies from Salon Success says, “I think trends are going more natural for next year, but still with an element of fun. So you might have a little pop of colour somewhere.

“It might be a really rich brunette and then a little pastel pink coming through and then back into brunette again. I’d like to see more creative colouring with permanent shades.”

5. Be ready for new trends EVERY day

If you want to stay ahead of the competition this year, then take on board this top tip from celebrity stylist Dom Seeley. He says, “Trends are so hard to predict now. I find trends happen daily. I think products are the trends now, like with Olaplex people can push their hair further.

“I really think its product innovation and social media rather than looking in a magazine or on TV anymore.”
