How does Olaplex work?
Olaplex is a bond multiplier containing a single active ingredient: Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. This molecule goes beyond the surface by finding single sulphur hydrogen bonds and cross-linking them back together. It’s these disulphide bonds that have been broken by colour, chemical and mechanical damage.

How Can I Use Olaplex?
Olaplex’s simple process involves a mix of salon-only and at-home treatments you can either include in your service menu or sell to your clients. The best part is that you can mix and match treatments, such as the No.6 Bond Smoother and No.7 Bonding Oil, to create a cocktail that will transform your client’s hair into the healthiest version of itself.
- Mix the Olaplex No.1 Bond Multiplier in with your client’s bleach or colour treatment. Leave in the hair for as long as the colour treatment takes to develop and rinse out.
- Apply the Olaplex No.2 Bond Perfector throughout the hair and leave in for 10-20 minutes. Rinse it out and follow up with shampoo and conditioner. If your client is getting a bleaching service, use the Olaplex No.4P Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo as a toner and leave in for up to five minutes before rinsing out.
- Sell the Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector and Olaplex No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment as an at-home treatment to your clients. Tell them to fully saturate the No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment into their hair and leave in for ten minutes before applying the No.3 Hair Perfector. Depending on the condition of your client’s hair, recommend them to leave in the No.3 Hair Perfector for 10-30 minutes, but some might want to leave it in for a few hours or overnight if severely damaged. If this is the case, tell your clients to cover their hair- with a towel or shower-cap to prevent it touching the face and eyes.
- Other treatments your clients can use at home include the No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo, the No.4P Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo and the No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner. However, you can also use them as add-ons in your client’s service.
- Apply the Olaplex 4-IN-1 Moisture Mask onto damp hair from mid-lengths to end with your fingers. If your client has shoulder-length hair then use two pumps. If your client’s hair is longer or thicker then apply more, and similarly use less for fine or short hair. Leave in the hair for ten minutes and rinse out thoroughly. Remember to retail the Olaplex No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask to your clients in place of the professional 4-IN-1 moisture mask, and advise them to leave in the hair for ten minutes.
- Use the Olaplex No.6 Bond Smoother as a leave-in treatment to reduce frizz and hydrate the hair and the Olaplex No.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum to protect the hair from pollution and free radicals. Finish off with a few drops of the Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil and proceed to blow-dry and style.
How Much Should I Charge For Olaplex?
Deciding how much to charge your clients for Olaplex treatments is one of the most commonly asked questions because it’s the perfect money-making opportunity for professional hairdressers. While it’s all dependent on the service you’re providing and your regular price points, we generally recommend a 15% up-charge.
For example, if you charge £100 for a partial highlight, you would add £15. If you charge £50 for a single process colour, you would add £7.50. Using a percentage allows Olaplex to be accessible for every price point.
