When Maximalist Fashion Meets Minimalist Hair: The Runway Vision Behind Fam Irvoll

S-Pro waxing range

When you think of Scandinavian fashion, you might imagine restraint and quiet minimalism. Then there’s Fam Irvoll, who joyfully turns that idea inside out.

The Norwegian designer is known for playful, colour-saturated collections layered with bold prints and handmade 3D elements. Her work leans into youth culture, political femininity and irony-laced nostalgia, always underpinned by genuine craftsmanship. Every piece feels intentional. Expressive. Heart-led.

For this collection, the inspiration centred around youth, colour and nostalgia. Visually rich themes that could easily have led to equally elaborate hair.

Instead, the creative direction chose contrast.

A Study in Balance

To complement the maximalist garments, the hair was intentionally toned down: clean, sleek and controlled. A visual pause. A disciplined counterpoint to the expressive clothing.

Leading the hair direction was Narad Kutowaroo, Creative Director of UNITE Hair and a renowned session stylist known for his precision and modern aesthetic. Working closely with the designer, Narad translated the collection’s energy into hair that felt contemporary, structured and quietly powerful.

His approach demonstrates something every salon professional understands: when fashion is loud, hair does not have to shout.

The Runway Look: Sleek, Structured, Intentional

The finished look centred around:

  • Long, ultra-sleek ponytails
  • Contrasting hair colours and textures
  • High-shine, polished finishes

The ponytail became architectural rather than casual. Placement and surface smoothness were everything. Texture contrast added subtle depth without distracting from the garments.

For hairdressers, this is a reminder that simplicity requires technical excellence. Clean lines expose every detail. Shine must be deliberate. Hold must be invisible.

The Product Strategy Behind the Look

The result was hair that looked effortless under runway lights but was built with professional intention underneath.
