Nearly two thirds of mums-to-be are booking in for beauty treatments before giving birth, according to a new study. Here are the top treatments to market to your pregnant clients.

Pregnancy_Beauty_treatments

It’s official: 26 September is the most popular birthday, meaning you’ve probably got a few heavily pregnant clients on your books. And with an increasing number of new mums posting baby announcement photos on social media, it’s likely they’ll be wanting to book in for a beauty treatment to look Insta-ready in hospital!

In fact, according to a recent study* of 2,000 women, 64% of women said they’d get a beauty treatment before having their baby.

So why not make the most of this by marketing pampering beauty treatments for mums-to-be. Before you get started, just make sure the products you’re using are suitable for pregnant women. The new Sienna X skincare rangeis made from mostly natural ingredients as well as the L’Oreal Source Essentiellle Haircare rangewhich would be suitable choices for your pregnant clients.

Also do a full consultation before any treatment to make sure there are no underlying medical issues.

Waxing

The study found 65% of mums-to-be said they’d have hair removal treatment before having their baby. So why not offer waxing treatments to your pregnant clients using products designed for sensitive skin.

Just be aware that hormone changes in pregnancy can make women more sensitive to pain so do talk this through with your client before starting any treatments.

“Over half (57%) of mums-to-be said they’ll have a manicure in the run up to their due date, while 43% said they’ll get a pedicure”

Make up lesson

According to the survey of mums-to-be, 68% said they’d apply makeup while in labour. So why not offer a makeup lesson to your pregnant clients before they go into hospital? You can then upsell some products that they can pack in their makeup bag ready for their new mum close up!

Manicure and pedicure

Over half (57%) of mums-to-be said they’ll have a manicure in the run up to their due date, while 43% said they’ll get a pedicure. So why not market a mani/pedi package for your pregnant clients – a bit of pampering before baby arrives.

The NCT recommends pregnant women avoid gel nails and instead get a standard manicure, so make sure that you use classic nail polishor nail lacquer for these clients.

Hair styling

Nearly a third of pregnant women (32%) said they’d book in for a blowdry or get their hair styled before giving birth. Why not create a VIP mum-to-be package including a conditioning treatment, cut and blow dry and then upsell a bag of mini products to pack in their hospital bag.

Fake tan

The study found over a third of mums-to-be (37%) plan to book in for a fake tan before giving birth. According to the NHS, it’s probably best that pregnant women avoid spray tans as the effects of inhaling the spray aren’t known. However this is a great retail opportunity - why not upsell self tan productsyour clients can use at home.
