freelance_hairdresser_beautician_car

With your busy mobile hair and beauty business, you’re on the road a LOT. So, it makes sense that you want a car that is affordable, cheap to run, reliable… and has enough storage space for all your equipment. Here’s our round-up of five of the best cars for your mobile business in 2019.

With your busy mobile hair and beauty business, you’re on the road a LOT. So, it makes sense that you want a car that is affordable, cheap to run, reliable… and has enough storage space for all your equipment.

Here’s our round-up of five of the best cars for your mobile business in 2019.

1. If you’re looking to save money on fuel and congestion charge…

Toyota Yaris Hybrid, RRP from £17,099

Currently available with 0% APR on PCP Finance, the Yaris is a petrol-electric hybrid. And that means it can save you money at the petrol pump between clients as it achieves an amazing 91 miles per gallon (mpg).

The car is in group 8 for insurance, making it one of the cheapest to insure. Toyota also offers one of the most generous warranties in the industry.

If you work in London, you’ll be pleased to hear that certain models are exempt from the capital’s congestion charge. That’s potentially a massive saving of £11.50 a day.

Storage Space

With its 286 litres of boot space, foldable seats and five doors, you should easily be able to fit in all the equipment you need for your hair and beauty business. Plus, it’s small enough to be easy to park. (Parking assistance is an optional extra.)

2. If you’re looking for a car that’s great for work and family life…

Honda Civic, RRP from £19,000

If you’re for a car suitable for work - and for family life - the Honda Civic is a great option.

While it’s comparatively more expensive than our other suggestions, it’s big selling point is its versatility: it’s just at home taking you from client-to-client as it is on long motorway drives with the whole family.

It has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating heaps of extras and is easy to drive. Plus, you’ll struggle to find a more reliable vehicle.

Storage Space

The 2016 onwards models of this car have been given a chic facelift and are class-leading when it comes to boot space. You should have no problems fitting your equipment in the back.

3. If you’re looking for a car to use for rural clients

Dacia Duster, RRP from £9,995

If you live in the countryside and need to drive down rural lanes to see clients, you might want a car with more robust off-road credentials. Which brings us to the Dacia Duster, the cheapest off roader currently available in the UK.

The diesel version offers a reasonable 64.4mpg. There is also a 4x4 version of the Duster to ensure it will stand up to those cold, muddy tracks on the way to clients.

Storage Space

With 28.6 litres of storage in the car, there’s lots of room for all the equipment you’re likely to need.

4. If you’re looking for an economical city runaround…

VW UP, RRP from £8,825

A previous winner of WhatCar? Car of the Year award, the Volkswagen Up is a small, economical (and funky!) city car.

When it comes to running costs the Up is cheap to insure and the smallest engine offers 55mpg. The car has reasonable resale value so you don’t need to worry too much about depreciation.

It also has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Storage Space

It’s undeniably a small car. However, the boot still offers a 250-litre capacity and certain models allow you to fold the seat backs flat to fit more in. In fact, the only real drawback for this car is if you’re looking for a little more room for equipment — portable sinks and beauty beds just might push its storage space to the limit.

5. If you’re looking for LOTS of storage space…

Ford Transit Connect, RRP from £15,970, excluding VAT

If you need a lot of equipment for your mobile hair and beauty business, a van might be your best option. If you own your own mobile business, buying a vehicle like the Ford Transit Connect - which is classed as a light commercial vehicle - could save you a huge amount in VAT compared to a car.

If you want to use your car for work and for home, a van might not be for you. But if you work full-time as a mobile hairdresser or beauty therapist, and you have access to other transport, then this could be ideal.

Storage Space

As a van it obviously has a lot more room to fit your equipment in. This makes it perfect if you’re thinking of offering home packages for bridal parties or treatments at corporate events. To look really professional, consider having your company signage on your van to advertise your business while on the move.
