February: Love is in the hair

This month it’s ALL about the hair. And to be totally on trend, why not introduce your clients to a different colour range, including soft pinks and reds.

To style, embrace the 70s revival - a key trend for the whole of 2020 - and use different sized tongs to recreate this gorgeous wavy look.

March: Festival of Colour

With the arrival of spring comes a colour explosion. And for 2020, it’s all about bold block colours - including on the lips - and graphic make-up.

Unsurprisingly, a key hue for 2020 is the Pantone Color of the Year - Classic Blue. So why not incorporate shades of blue in your client’s hair or in their makeup. Above all else, have fun!

Hair stylist Victoria Panting says, “We live in a fast fashion culture so the trends are quickly transitioning but you can expect certain things like a strong red lip and a kohl eyeliner to be a look again this year.

“When we’re in a transitional time [thanks to Brexit] I think women will go for empowering styles that make them feel amazing. So volume, strong lips and bold eyes.”

April/ May: Wedding season

April is officially the start of wedding season. And a great way to attract more brides to your salon or freelance business is by making sure you’re up to date with the hottest bridal trends.

The Meghan Markle messy bun is still popular, with soft, loose updos a key hair trend. Other bridal looks for 2020 are pin waves, natural waves and hair embellishments and headbands.

Meanwhile makeup is barely there and nails are natural.

Bridal makeup artist Lauren Mathis says, “This year I think it’s going to be quite natural and soft. Nothing too much, just a pop of colour as opposed to anything too intense.”

July: That 70s summer vibe

It’s been all over the catwalks… and now the Seventies look has hit the high street. Bring back elements of the 1970s by giving your clients a retro look with undone hair and sun-kissed balayage colour.

Adem Oygur, Artistic Director at Errol Douglas says, “A key trend is the 70s kind of vibe, mid-length. The colour is still very much in the balayage look, but multi tones, not just blonde.”
