All you need to know about the Beauty Backed initiative and how to get help if your beauty business is struggling thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

Support for beauty professionals

Are you struggling to stay afloat thanks to the coronavirus pandemic? Sadly, you’re not alone. One in 60 jobs in the UK is in the beauty industry. And the nationwide Covid lockdown meant many beauty professionals were unable to earn any money for over five months.

The Hair & Beauty Charity saw a massive 78% increase in requests for financial support between April and June. Which highlights just how much of a struggle these past months have been for beauty professionals.

Samantha Grocutt, President of the Hair & Beauty charity, says, “The stats speak for themselves; this time last year we were helping 94 beneficiaries but we’re now helping 167 beneficiaries which is a huge increase for a small charity, especially as fundraising is very hard to do during the crisis.”

Luckily, the industry has launched the Beauty Backed initiative to help...

What is the Beauty Backed initiative?

Beauty Backed is a campaign to raise money for beauty professionals who have been financially hit by Covid-19.

The initiative, which is supported by the British Beauty Council and the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC), was launched after government guidelines meant many in the beauty industry were the last to return to work.

All the money raised goes directly to the Hair & Beauty Charity.

“There have been over 5,800 donations and nearly £400,000 has been given to the Beauty Backed fundraiser so far.”

How can I apply for funds from the Beauty Backed initiative?

The Beauty Backed initiative is passing all donations to the Hair & Beauty charity. If you’re a beauty professional in need of urgent financial support, you can apply for a one-off grant or regular payment.

The application process is very straightforward. You’ll need to complete a form and include details of:

  • How long you’ve been involved in the hair and beauty industry.
  • When you last worked in the industry.
  • What help you’re looking for.
  • Why you need the help.

Your application will then be discussed by the Hair & Beauty Charity Committee and you’ll be told if your application is successful within 21 days.
