Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use Colour Undo?

Colour Undo’s ultimate goal is to make colour removal a safe, simple and gentle service for you and your clients. This brand’s vegan-friendly and dermatologically tested formula is designed to strip all semi-permanent and permanent colour off your client’s hair with no compromise on its natural shine & lustre.

As Colour Undo is an independent brand, you can use it in conjunction with any salon brand and a variety of colour services from bleach-free balayage to colour correction.

How does Colour Undo work?

When mixed and applied, Colour Undo’s formula reverses your client’s artificial colour by shrinking enlarged molecules caused by oxidised bleaching and colouring back to their original size. Once your client’s hair is rinsed and buffered, these shrunken molecules are washed away from the hair without the fear of re-oxidisation or potential damage.

The most important step of the Colour Undo process is the buffering and rinsing stage. While the colour molecules have successfully shrunk back to their ‘pre-permanent’ size, they still remain in your client’s hair. If you don’t completely rinse them out, oxygen in the air will cause the molecules to expand, returning hair to its previous colour. To avoid this, you must make sure the Buffer is used and your client’s hair is rinsed for at least ten minutes before, during and after applying.

Does Colour Undo remove all types of colour?

Colour Undo removes professional and high street oxidised semi-permanent & permanent colours. However, it won’t remove bleach and there are certain cuticle-staining colours that can make its process much harder. These include:

  • • Blue-black
  • • Red
  • • Purple
  • • Green

Henna hair colours also stain the cuticle and can’t be removed with Colour Undo. This includes herbal and plant based colours as they may also use Henna derivatives. Before you use Colour Undo, always check with your clients which method was used during their previous hair colouring.

Do I need to perform a patch test before using Colour Undo?

Yes. You should always perform a patch test 48 hours before using Colour Undo. To do this, mix a pea-sized amount of the Activator with the Remover from the Colour Undo Pack. Using a cotton bud or tissue, apply a dab of the mixed product behind the ear. Make sure it’s removed after 24 hours with water and a cleanser.

If your client gets irritation or an allergic reaction, remove immediately and do not conduct a Colour Undo application.

How do I use Colour Undo?

Colour Undo offers such a simple process that anyone can use it. Follow our step-by-step guide below so you can successfully perform a service any time. For longer hair, it may require two applications.

  1. Step One
Mix equal amounts of the Activator and Remover (approx. 50ml of each) using the measuring bottles provided in your pack.

  2. Step Two
Saturate the mixture onto dry hair using a tint bowl and brush. Make sure the hair doesn’t dry out after application and cover it with a plastic head cap. To protect your client’s face from the liquid, put a halo of cotton wool around the hairline. Leave the mixture to develop for up to 60 minutes or to your client’s desired result (this could be done within 10 minutes).

  3. Step Three
Rinse out the formula from step 2 with warm water for 5 minutes. Lather approximately 25ml of the Buffer in your client’s hair. Leave in for 1 minute and rinse out with warm water for 5 minutes.

  4. Step Four
Repeat step 3. The Colour Undo process is then complete.

Is Colour Undo vegan?

Colour Undo is 100% vegan and never tested on animals.

What makes Colour Undo different to other colour removers?

Traditional removal techniques such as colour strips can cause potential damage to your client’s hair as well as uneven results if not handled correctly. However, Colour Undo is specifically designed to restore your client’s natural moisture and shine during the removal process. How? Its easy to mix formula is infused with nourishing Argan oil to improve the hair’s condition and texture.

Does Colour Undo work with specific colour brands?

Colour Undo is an independent brand. This means their colour remover can be used in conjunction with any salon or high street colour brand. However, it won’t work with Henna dyes or hair that has been bleached or lightened.

Does my business need colour removal products?

Colour removal is an essential service for any salon or freelance business. You will have a number of clients who sit in your salon chair wanting a variety of services that may require reversing their artificial colour to avoid potential damage. These include:

  • • Removal of colour build-up
  • • Colour grabbing
  • • Dull highlights
  • • DIY disasters
  • • In-salon mistakes
  • • Over-toning
  • • Changing fashion colours to stay on-trend
  • • Mature clients wanting to embrace their natural greys.

Colour Undo is designed to help you perform these services with ease.

Does Colour Undo have any limitations?

Knowing about your client’s hair history is vital as Colour Undo can only remove artificial pigments. If your client’s hair has been through high lifting tinting or bleaching, their natural pigments are lightened and altered. This means it won’t be possible to restore your client’s natural hair colour with Colour Undo. It is crucial to know what previous chemical colouration was used.

How often can I use Colour Undo?

You can apply Colour Undo as much as you want within reason without harming your client’s hair.

Can I colour hair immediately after using Colour Undo?

You can colour your client’s immediately after using Colour Undo, but please be aware that colourants contain ammonia and bleach which will cause damage to scalp and hair if over used.

How can Colour Undo benefit my business?

Colour Undo will provide amazing opportunities to boost profits and build your salon or freelance business. Using a process so easy and safe that assistants can use it, Colour Undo guarantees you can manage your daily column without needing to stand there and watch as its formula works its magic. Unlike other colour removal services such as stripping, Colour Undo gives you the flexibility and freedom to use it as many times as you need without running the risk of damaging your client’s hair when performing their new colour service on the same day.

What are the safety guidelines when using Colour Undo?

Always keep these safety guidelines in mind before you use Colour Undo on your clients:

  • • Protect clothing as Colour Undo can permanently stain both clothes and upholstery.
  • • Keep out of reach of children.
  • • Do not mix Colour Undo with other products during the process.
