Met Gala 2016: The looks that stole the show

Posted on 3rd May 2016 by PROinsider
Last night saw the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit (the Met Gala for short) take place in NYC and as always, our Instagram feed has been ablaze with snaps of the A listers who stole the show (and some that didn't). With a futuristic fashion theme, silver frocks and suits embellished with glitter, sparkle and foil finishes ruled the red carpet and, ahem, metal plated robot-style sleeves (Zayn Malik) grabbed the paparazzi's attention. However, it was the out-of-this-world hair and make-up that really caught PROInsider's eye...

Sleek chic

The ponytail tribe were out in full force last night, with super models such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid leading the way for the sleeked-down twist on the style. Indie-goddess Alexa Chung rocked scraped-back roots with smooth curls for a feminine touch to her suit-trouser get-up.

Short and sweet

Who says you need long hair to rock the red carpet? Kylie Jenner and Jourdan Dunn looked stunning with their smooth, cute and sophisticated jaw-length bobs. Michelle Williams added a choppy fringe for an edgier finish.

Plum pouts

We loved the nude, pink and red lips on show, but it was the dark pouts that really packed a punch.  Taylor Swift and Poppy Delevingne’s wine-stained lips jumped out against their ice-blonde locks, while Miranda Kerr’s plum lipstick added an edge to her pretty braids.

Breaking the eye and lip rule

Even non-professionals know the number one make-up rule – focus should be on the eyes or lips, but not both.  However, proving that rules are made to be broken - Kate Bosworth and Jemima Kirke teamed their red lips with bold eyeshadow, whereas Lorde’s bronzed eyes and candy-pink lips teamed with a pastel tulle gown was the ultimate head-turner.
