how to:
waxing
Hair removal is no longer the
taboo subject of years gone past such to the extent that even the
burliest of men are openly booking waxing sessions at their nearest
salon. Why the waxing revolution? Certainly tv programmes like C4's
The Salon and the deluge of beauty magazines available at our newsagents
have combined to raise awareness of waxing to the general public.
However all the column inches dedicated to waxing wouldn't amount
to anything if the process hadn't improved so much. Removing unwanted
hair is no longer the painful experience it once was. If you are new
to waxing we have tried to answer a few common questions below.
What is involved in waxing?
Wax is spread thinly over the skin with a strip
(either fabric or paper) pressed on top. The strip is then ripped
off with a quick movement thus removing the wax along with the unwanted
hair leaving the skin smooth to touch.
What is the difference between hot and
cold waxes?
Hot wax
is melted to just above body temperature giving a consistency which
allows the wax to be spread easily across the skin. The wax then hardens
trapping the hair. When the wax is stripped off the hair is removed
roots and all.
Cold waxes, aka Persian Waxing,
come in precoated strips which are pressed to the skin. The hairs
stick to the wax and are removed when the strip is removed quickly.
What is the difference between warm
wax and creme wax?
Warm wax has a honey-like consistency and can
be quite sticky where as Creme wax is not as thick a consistency and
is probably easier to spread. However both are hot waxes and are used
in the same manner - it is just down to personal preference
What can I use to help waxing procedure?
There are products available to help smooth
the process of waxing. If you think of waxing as a three step procedure
to get the best experience and results. Step 1 you
can use a pre-wax lotion which will prepares the skin for waxing by
removing build-ups such as make-up, body oils etc. Step 2
is the waxing application then removal - there are various waxes available
such as Green Tea, Lavender, and Tea Tree Creme waxes, which are formulated
differently and bring their own benefits. Step 3
should include using an after-wax lotion to soothe and calm the skin
after waxing.
How long before hair reappears?
Hair growth rates obviously change from person
to person. Generally speaking waxing should result in between 3 and
8 weeks hair free. When the hair regrows it should be less in bulk
and finer - eventually some hair may never grow back.
