11 top trends for your town

Posted on 22nd April 2015 by PROinsider

From the Scouse brow to TOWIE tans, each UK region favours a particular beauty trend and owns it. The 2015 Beautiful Britain report reveals all about our nation’s weird and wonderful habits. Want to know more? Here’s our guide to the UK’s hair and beauty hotspots:

SCOTLAND
We had them down as the ‘outdoorsy hard-man type’ but Scottish men actually list facials as one of their top three treatments! Is that the secret to Ewan McGregor’s flawless skin we wonder?

Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy actress and Inverness lovely Karen Gillan works the undone up-do, which has been a big trend here.

NORTH EAST
Up-selling is going well in these parts. The glamorous ladies of Northumberland, County Durham, Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear spend an average of £9 on products following an in-salon treatment.

Hairspray is also a top choice for northern lasses. And we all know that Geordie girl Cheryl Fernandez-Versini swears by >L’Oréal Professional Elnett Supreme Hairspray to keep her tresses in place.

YORKSHIRE
With summer around the corner, Yorkshire girls will be glad to hear that they’re living in the cheapest region for women’s hair removal – so no excuse for fuzzy legs on Sandsend Beach!

According to the survey, 23 per cent of professionals in this area plan to add male grooming to their menus in 2015. Will you? Check out the brand new range from Bluebeards Revenge.

EAST MIDLANDS
Sandals at the ready! The ladies of the East Midlands must have the best-looking feet in the nation, as it’s the cheapest place you can go for a pedicure (£15.70). We’re heading to Nottingham and Derby for a pedi and gel polish – and we’ve already picked our colour, China Glaze Nail Polish in Orange Knockout!

EAST
Kent beauty Gemma Arterton is always spotted with a glowing complexion, which comes as no surprise as facials are most popular with women in the east of England.

No doubt aided by male celebrities like Michael Bublé taking to social media to show off their beauty secrets (apparently the Canadian crooner loves a facemask), professionals here have seen a whopping 89 per cent increase in the number of male customers.

LONDON
“Ladies here are busy,” says Pierre Doumit, creative director at Leticia Haute Coiffure. “So, there’s a demand for high-maintenance solutions that time-poor women can easily fit in their diaries.” Unsurprisingly then, the ladies of London pay the most for a haircut, with capital prices averaging at £40.

And the men? Believe it or not, despite all the Hoxton hipsters, 70 per cent of professionals find that the clean-shaven look is the most requested facial hairstyle among the men of the capital!

SOUTH EAST
Things are very different in the beautiful south with southern blokes being at the opposite end of the facial-hair spectrum – the full-beard trend is more popular here than any other region and you can spot most of them on a Saturday afternoon in Brighton…

Coastal ladies keep their talons in check, with manicures being the most popular treatment here.

SOUTH WEST
Devon beauty Rosie Huntington-Whiteley loves to show off her long legs and they always look smooth and shiny (not to mention gorgeously tanned). Despite that, ladies here leave the longest time between hair removal treatments, usually around eight weeks. So, sales of maxi dresses are probably on the up here as well!

David Beckham is the biggest celebrity style inspiration among men in the South West – good taste!

WALES
Birthplace of Christian Bale, Tom Jones and Steve Jones, these Welsh men know how to take care of themselves, so it’s no wonder male treatments are more popular here than in any other region.

The well-turned-out ladies aren’t letting the side down either, as they have hair removal treatments most frequently, at every five weeks. Take note South West!

WEST MIDLANDS
The Theory of Everything actress and Brummy girl Felicity Jones beautifully models must-have wavy tresses, which are set to be the biggest female hair trend here over the next year. Low maintenance but super stylish, get waving in-salon with Diva Mini Waver Beach Waves, and Wella Professionals Style Boost Bounce.

NORTHERN IRELAND
Belfast beauties are always gorgeously groomed but the men of Northern Ireland are starting a male-grooming revolution, as 96 per cent of professionals have seen an increase in male customers over the last year. Obviously they don’t want to be upstaged by the girls...

There shouldn’t be a chipped nail in sight in Northern Ireland either – not even for Christine Bleakley, who’s sat through a few nail-biting football games watching her fiancé Frank Lampard play – as it’s the cheapest region for a woman’s manicure (£14.90). We’re off!
