What SS16 is looking like so far…

Posted on 23rd September 2015 by PROinsider

It’s only been a few weeks since we’ve packed our bikinis away, yet the hair and beauty industry are already determining how we’ll be styling our ’dos and choosing what make-up shades we’ll be wearing for SS16. PROinsider reveals the SS16 trends from LFW so far…

Focus the eyes

For the past few seasons, make-up has been muted on the catwalks – especially for summer. But, we’re starting to see a revival of intense, colourful make-up, and this season the focus is on the eyes. We saw vibrant eyeliner at Mary Katrantzou, applied to just the centre of the eyeline for a bigger impact, while Issa embraced a staple look for most women – strong, black eyeliner. Julien Macdonald turned it up ten notches by extending the eyeliner to an intense, black smoky eye that covered the sockets and had a thick bottom line.

PROinsider’s fave: Julien Macdonald – we love the edgy, intense black smoky eye teamed with a pretty summer dress; a refreshing change from the usual summer-dress look.

Just-got-out-of-bed hair

The messy, ‘unstyled’ style might look easy, but it takes lots of skill to create a beautiful head of untidy hair. Loose waves combined with distinct partings created nostalgic 90s hair at Antonio Berardi. Simone Rocha combined a messy, undone crown of mini quiffs with a neat, pretty braid for an alternative to last season’s undone bun. Mary Katrantzou kept locks natural but sleeked back at the roots and tucked behind ears.

PROinsider fave: Simone Rocha – braids are a summer staple, and we love this messy twist to the look.

Just-got-out-of-the-shower hair

Wet-look locks are still on the rise, and it’s not just the roots that have been for a dip. Vivienne Westwood Red Label went for just-got-out-of-a-storm hair, with wet, wild and windswept tresses with a few strands placed around the face for an edgy finish. The look was similar at Julien Mcdonald but the hair was worn long and the wet finish extended to the skin. A more wearable wet-look was seen at David Koma: hair wasn’t dripping-wet, but towel-dried-damp and styled sleeked down with a side parting.

PROinsider fave: David Koma – we love the drama of the Vivienne Westwood Red Label and Julien Macdonald shows, but realistically we’d all have constant colds if we went out in the British summer with soaking wet hair.

The quickest way to instantly update your whole look is to create a centre parting – and, good news, the easy style is here to stay for SS16. Paul Smith teamed a centre parting with a sleek, low up-do (we’re thinking the perfect SS16 wedding style). Temperley also teamed the centre parting with a low up-do, creating long, undone, romantic ponytails. Palmer//Harding created a similar look but with a sleeker finish.

PROinsider fave: Paul Smith – this was the toughest category as we loved all the looks, but this chic up-do is so versatile, be it the perfect summer office look, or teamed with flowers and a veil for the ultimate boho bride.
