The six ways to wear your hair this autumn

Posted on 2nd September 2015 by PROinsider

It’s been a summer of beautiful braids, pastel shades and undone chic, but it’s time to switch it up for the official start of autumn. We’ve picked our six favourite AW hair trends – which one will you go for?

1. The cheat bob

The pixie crop has had a recent resurgence with celebs like Lily Collins sporting the trend. But, going for the chop can be daunting, which is why we are loving the cheat bob. Seen at Giambattista Valli and Max Mara, hair was either tucked into collars or pinned to create a faux bob, perfect for a dramatic new look without having to go through the annoying ‘growing-out’ phase.

2. The knot

For years women everywhere have been trying to find a cure to the dreaded post-wash knotted hair, however designers like Giorgio Armani and Jonathan Saunders are breaking all the rules (and possibly hair) by championing the knot trend. Whether it’s a bun tied in a knot, or a cluster of knots to make a textured up-do, it wins the low-maintenance hair ‘do’ award – you don’t even need a hairband!

3. 60s messy chic

60s hair is full of glamour and volume, which is why the trend makes an appearance every year with a slight twist. This year, designers including Chanel and Fendi went for a 60s-inspired up-do with an Alice band, but with a messy, undone finish for a modern take on the look.

4. Sleek pony

If the messy-chic look doesn’t appeal, opt for a sleek pony as seen at Christian Dior. Unlike the previous styles mentioned, hair should be smooth, even and with lashings of shine. For those tresses that aren’t quite there, adding extensions will achieve the length needed for this style.

5. Poker-straight

This year might have seen a 90s revival with lots of grungy curls and wet-look waves, but designers like Rochas and Donna Karan are flying the flag for the poker-straight hair of the noughties. For trend-lovers, make sure you regularly treat yourself to a trim for those severe, blunt ends.

6. Side parting

Last season we were updating locks by simply parting hair down the centre. However, Jil Sander and Balmain have moved the line to the side. Wearing the parting to the side is a really quick and simple party-season look, especially when teamed with ultra-glam sparkly earrings.
