Is Natural the New Neon?

Posted on 29th April 2015 by PROinsider

2014 was the year for experimenting with colour, but bright and neon tones could be left in the shade this summer…

Summer 2014 saw a colour explosion that hit the streets as well as the festivals, from rainbow hair to neon face paints.

But as we fast forward to Coachella 2015, the usual bright shades were nowhere to be seen. Instead, festival-goers opted for understated and natural looks, which complemented the floaty-textured fashion. Similarly, bare-faced beauty teamed with natural, loose locks was big at London Fashion Week SS15, including at Dior, Balmain and YSL.

So, with Isle of Wight, V-Festival, Latitude, Reading and Leeds all coming up, make sure your clients are on top of all the big summer trends.

Rock Locks
The easiest and quickest trick to help clients achieve the ultimate Coachella natural ‘do’, as seen on Kendall Jenner, is by creating a centre parting. Naturally dried hair is perfect to create the look, but advise them to keep humidity-frizz at bay with Tecni.Art Fix Anti-Frizz Spray, perfect for 24-hour smooth hair.

The Face
Recreate fresh-faced skin with Lord & Berry Cream Foundation, the thin liquid base of this foundation creates the perfect natural finish, while still offering full coverage.

The lips remain nude, too. A dab of Carmex Lip Balm Pot Cherry, will prepare and protect festival lips, while adding a hint of colour. If your client is on the pale side, though, and you’re worried about nude washing out their complexion, use a colour that’s a shade or two above like a pale pink, such as Lord & Berry Intensity Lipstick in Peach Gleam.

Lippie lovers will be pleased to know that red lips were the colourful alternative to all the natural hues with the California crew – so if your client is pro-colour, try Lord & Berry 20100 Lipstick in Scarlett.

Eyes were the main focus at Coachella, however. Similarly, at London Fashion Week models sported extreme graphic eyeliner – you can create similar looks with super-precise Lord & Berry Inkglam Black Liquid Eyeliner.

VIP fingers
The nude look reached the fingertips of on-trend Kate Bosworth, who’s been sporting a fresh, natural finish that’s ideal for a low-key festival look. Pros-in-the-know are aware that, just like nude lips, nude nails need good preparation. To prepare hands, try ASP Manicure Pomegranate and Fig Salt Soak, the pomegranate extract contains natural antioxidant properties to boost dull nails, and Skintruth Hand Treatment Cream, great for calming and soothing hands. For the finishing touch, apply Gelish Soak Off Gel Polish in Simple Sheer, which can last up to three weeks, perfect for mani that is going to be put through its paces.
