How to dye hair grey or silver

Posted on 19th November 2015 by PROinsider

Finding your first grey hair is always a traumatic experience, you instantly feel 50 years older and fret that your youth is officially over. But now ladies are paying for the luxury of silver-tinted tresses, thanks to the new grey trend created by celebs such as Kylie Jenner, Rihanna and Dascha Polanco. This look can suit a lot of people, as it’s the perfect way to warm up blondes or lighten brunette locks without going too bright, which can clash with warmer skin tones. If your clients are hesitant to commit to grey from root to tip, suggest a grey ombré instead. We’ve rounded up our fave products that are guaranteed to turn your client into a grey goddess…

Permanent colours

1. Apply base shade on all of the roots as required
2. Mix RUSK Deepshine Blonde Gentle Lightening Cream, £8.49 with 30vol, and apply in sections using the ombré technique and working from the bottom up. Apply the mixture to the outer edge of the sections higher than the middle lower to create a soft highlight. Repeat this all over the hair and develop for 45 mins.
3. Rinse and shampoo.
4. For the grey, mix 50mls of RUSK Deepshine Pure Pigments Conditioning Cream Colour 10.000NC Ultra Light Blonde, £5.99 with 1ml RUSK Deep Shine Pure Pigments Conditioning Cream 1.000NC Black £5.99, and 75mls RUSK Deepshine Shine Enhancing Cream Developer balancing lotion £5.99. Let the mixture oxidize. You may have to add more base or black to the mixture, depending on the darkness of the grey you want to achieve.
