Party season is just around the corner, so it’s time to start thinking about what treats you will be offering your clients. Whatever the catwalk trends are saying, your clients are going to want a look that oozes glitz and glamour. But not every look is going to suit every client, so we’ve had a look back over this year’s hottest trends and picked our faves to make one super-trend for Christmas makeup and hairstyles that’ll work for everyone…
We’ve seen eyeliner go big, bold and graphic this year, but what we’ve loved the most has been the variety of colour. Go for graphic, tropical brights on extrovert clients, while a smudge of dark brown liner or shadow will create a subtle yet sexy smokey eye for clients who prefer an understated finish.
Focus has been on the eyes this year, so we’ve seen a lot of muted and neutral lips – but it just won’t cut it for the party season. One bright hue that’s bucked the trend and has been painted on pouts from Coachella to catwalks is a classic siren-red. Use an invisible lip liner to add staying power. You can also achieve an eye-catching Christmas makeup look by just combining a strong red lip with a dark liner!
This year, celebs and catwalks have both been opting for lighter, fresher make-up, leaving skin dewy and luminous. This is a perfect Christmas makeup look, so start by recommending a purifying face mask to clear the skin a few weeks in advance, then on the day use a light-reflecting foundation to get that gorgeous shine, and use a strobing technique, or a light dusting of highlighting powder for an extra hint of subtle festive glow.
It’s not only make-up that has been neutral this year; locks have been loose and effortless too. This look can be unforgiving as there is no ‘style’ to hide behind, so it’s very important that tresses are in top condition– perhaps suggest a few pre-party-season treatments before injecting some glamour with glossy tumbling curls.
