The brand-new issue of PRO Hair & Beauty magazine is out – hoorah! So, to celebrate, here’s an exclusive BTS video from our avant-garde-themed cover shoot.
Click on the video below and you’ll see our beautiful model transform into an avant-garde goddess in just 16 seconds. The woman behind the stunning look, make-up artist Phyllis Cohen, revealed her tips to mastering the paint-stroke finish to PROinsider: “It’s really important to think about where the shadows and the highlights are. As long as you place the darker colours where you would normally put shading and the lighter colours where you would put highlights, you’ll still complement the face shape.” This look is extremely theatrical, so for a more wearable look take inspiration from the colour combinations: subtle purples, pinks and even yellows can be blended together to create a bold, statement look (teamed with a neutral lipstick, of course).
The splash of bright colours framing the eyes was just one of three looks from the cover shoot. The other styles included a graphic neon orange around the eye, set off with white eyeliner, and a glowing hot-pink eye, teamed with gold leaf in the hair.
Indeed, tresses were also given a dramatic make-over by award-nominated avant-garde hairdresser Lucie Monbillard. With the brief to create height with unusual, head-turning shape and movement, Lucie advises: “Use a long thread and tie it tightly around sections of the hair – spray generously with hairspray and use your hairdryer to set it. Once cooled, remove the thread to reveal a creased shape that will really last.” Lucie told PROinsider that you can use pretty much anything to create your desired shape – on the shoot she tied the hair with shoe laces! #resourceful
